Half Dome
Half Dome rises to an elevation of 8,842 feet. At 87 million years old, the type of granite making up the dome is the youngest plutonic rock in the valley. (Plutonic rock is formed beneath the earth's surface by intense heat, pressure, and slow cooling.)

The base of Yosemite Falls is an easy walk from Shuttle Bus Stop #7 near the Yosemite Lodge. Impressive view of both the upper and lower falls are seen on the path to the base. The two Yosemite falls and an intermediate cascade drop 2,425 feet, combining to make this the tallest waterfall in North America.
